Valance Over The Tube
Roller shades usually leave a visible slot at the top where the fabric wraps the tube, and light escapes through it. A fabric-covered valance about 3.15 in deep closes that line off, which both stops the leak and finishes the head of the window neatly. The valance is made in the same white material, so it reads as part of the shade.
Holds Its Position
The cordless mechanism holds the shade wherever it is left, so the fabric can sit at the sash line, halfway down or fully closed. That makes it usable on a window that needs shade in the afternoon and light in the morning. With no cord and no chain there is nothing hanging beside the frame for a child or a pet to pull.
Heat, Glare And UV
The blackout fabric works on three things at once: it darkens the room, cuts the glare that lands on a screen or a table, and blocks UV that would otherwise reach the floor and furniture. On a west facing window in summer that also means less heat coming through the glass during the hottest part of the day.
Sizing And Edge Gaps
Order the exact measurement of the window; the shade is produced 2/5 in narrower than the size entered so it can turn freely inside the frame. That leaves roughly a 1/4 in gap between the fabric edge and the inner wall of the frame, and a measurement that is well off will widen it. Sizes that are close but not exact are worth avoiding.
